Benign vulvar tumors


Description

Benign vulvar tumors are non-cancerous abnormal growth that doesn’t spread to other parts of the body. Usually, they are not life-threatening as they’re not cancerous. These have different types according to the tissue they start in (ex : fibromas start in fibrous and muscle tissue).

Symptoms

Many benign vulvar tumors don’t cause any symptoms and are found only on self-examination.

Itching
Pain
Burning sensation
Irritation
Mass

Causes

There’s no specific known cause for benign vulvar tumors but in general, benign tumors are formed due to excessive cell division or growth.

Diagnostics

The biopsy is the main diagnostic method to differentiate between benign and malignant tumors. This method depends on taking a sample of the tumor to be examined.


Treatment

Depending on the type of tumor, non-cancerous vulvar tumors may require complete surgical removal as a form of treatment.
